Want to start fresh or switch distributions? You can reinstall your server's operating system from the client area as often as you like; unlimited OS reinstalls are included in every plan. A reinstall usually completes within 5 minutes.
Warning: this permanently erases all data. Reinstalling wipes the server. All files, databases and configuration are lost and cannot be recovered, so back up anything you need first.
How to reinstall your server
- Log in to the client area, open your active service and scroll to the Reinstall OS section.
- Choose the operating system and version you want to install.
- Choose how you want to log in afterwards:
- Password authentication: Select Continue with Password. A new root password is generated and emailed to you.
- SSH key authentication (recommended): Select Continue with SSH Key. Choose Use Existing Public Key and paste your key (for example
ssh-ed25519 AAAA...), or choose Generate a New Key to create a new key pair.
- Review your choices and start the reinstall. Your server is wiped and redeployed with the new operating system, usually within 5 minutes.
When it's done, connect as described in Connect to Your Linux VPS via SSH.
