Configure Reverse DNS (rDNS)

Reverse DNS (rDNS), or a PTR record, maps an IP address back to a hostname, so your server's IP shows a recognizable name in logs, network tools and traceroutes.

Please note: sending email from Eve VPS servers is not permitted, and outbound port 25 is blocked on all servers. See our Terms of Service.

Before you start: The forward DNS record (A or AAAA) for your hostname must already point to your server's IP address. Otherwise the PTR record can't be saved.

How to set a custom PTR record

  1. Update forward DNS: At your domain registrar or DNS provider (for example Cloudflare), create an A record (IPv4) or AAAA record (IPv6) pointing your hostname, such as server.yourdomain.com, to your server's IP address. Wait a few minutes for it to propagate.
  2. Open your server: Log in to the client area, go to Services > My Services and click your server.
  3. Open network settings: Scroll down and click the Network tab.
  4. Configure rDNS: Scroll to the Reverse DNS (PTR Records) section.
  5. Save: Enter the hostname you created the A record for and click save. Your rDNS propagates within minutes.
